Informing...: Construction Update: August 2007

The Roetter Hall Renovation project is moving on schedule for an early October completion. Every Tuesday we have a meeting of the construction team: Jim Liston (project manager from DBC  Construction), Scott Markert (job superintendent), Fr. Chris, Ann Carlton, Robert Tuggey and me, along with various subcontractors and other members of our church. These meetings cover a variety of subjects such as electrical, lighting, plumbing, and kitchen and interior design.

This last week I walked through the hall after our weekly meeting and I was truly amazed. The interior structure is taking shape--two skylights have been constructed, the structural beams that will support the movable partitions have been installed, and the plumbing for the new bathrooms is in.

In the midst of all the dirt and hammering, I imagined the other, new sights and sounds that we will soon be hearing in Roetter Hall. I saw the four new classrooms where we will have adult education and Sunday school classes. I heard the new and different types of worship services with wonderful music. I could smell the cooking of a delicious parish dinner in the beautiful new kitchen. I could see in this place the possibilities that lie ahead.

For me, this project is not about the day-to-day aspects of the construction. Yes, each week there are questions from our contractor--what kind of window tinting, approvals of fixtures, looking at security systems. The list goes on and on. Yet, each decision is a part of our journey to this new space. There is a sense of excitement and anticipation in the air.

I invite you to share in the joy of this new adventure. If you have any questions about the construction, please feel free to call or email me. Or talk to me on Sunday between the services. Hear and see what lies ahead!
