Adult Education

Adult education is a new area of growth for Good Sam. For a number of years, we have supported programs such as Cursillo as well as study sessions during Lent. We also have special sessions for people who wish to join the Episcopal church.

We have an adult education offering on Sundays at 11:00am in the central area in Roetter Hall, unless otherwise announced.

The Adult Education Lecture Series contains a few downloadable mp3s from past classes.

Other opportunities for adult Christian education include: bible studies for Young Adults and Parents of School Age Children and our small groups.

As we become more polarized politically, socially, internationally, spiritually and economically, we also unfortunately become more extreme.

Come learn how to bridge the gap and learn to live and serve Christ together despite our differences.

Jesus the Rejected Jewish Messiah: the Gospel and Community of Matthew
David Moseley, Ph.D.
October 23 to November 27

Join us for a new series on the Gospel of Matthew, the favorite Gospel of the early church. Some questions to be addressed include:

  •   Who is the author of Matthew's Gospel?
  •   Why is so much of Matthew the same as Mark (and Luke, but not John)?
  •   How and Why is Jesus portrayed as the "New Moses"?
  •   Why does Jesus tell parables seemingly calculated to insult his audience?
  •   Is the "Gospel for the Jews" antisemitic?
  •   What was going on in Matthew's community when the Gospel was written?

Classes will be multi-media, involving PowerPoint presentations, maps, slides, movie clips, visual art and music.  Detailed handouts will be provided.

David Moseley, Ph.D. is the Chair of the Religious Studies Department at The Bishop’s School and holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in law, theology and philosophy from Oxford University; and a Doctorate in Theology from Cambridge University. He has been teaching Theology and Biblical Studies at the University of San Diego since 1997.  He teaches Adult Education classes throughout the county.
