Strategic Plan

Jeremiah 29:11

11For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

During the vestry retreat in 2011, we discussed the history of Good Sam, the vision for the future and what God was calling us to do. From this we developed an initial three-year strategic plan that included three church-wide goals and forty ministry goals.

The strategic plan (link) is much more than an institutional document. It represents a communal movement that solidified our ministries and increased the number of participants in all aspects of our church life.

“This is a community that is willing to be open, to grow, to accept new means of reaching out and keeping such a diversity of backgrounds, ethnicities, and ages.”
Because of our strategic plan, we now have a number of ministries to carry out the work of Christ and His Church. Each of these ministries is headed by the ministry Chair and also has a Vestry liaison. The following ministries are currently active at Good Sam:

      • Outreach
      • Pastoral Care
      • Worship
      • Welcoming
      • Youth and Children
      • Community Life
      • Stewardship
      • Parish Operations
      • Finance

The strategic plan was made to be flexible and responsive to a changing environment and needs. Not all of our initial three-year goals were met. Some were modified and others that were no longer relevant were dropped.

After the first three years, we understood that this plan is vital to our community’s growth. Moving into the fourth year, we identified new goals and acknowledge that the plan is a living guide that keeps us focused on doing what God is calling us to do at Good Sam.
