Congratulations and best wishes on your engagement. We give thanks that you as a couple seek to enter into your marriage covenant before God. We rejoice that you have asked for clergy to bless your commitment in the name of God in a service of worship with family and friends.
Good Samaritan Episcopal Church is located in the “Golden Triangle” area of San Diego close to La Jolla, the UCSD campus, and two major freeways. We are a modern, light filled space that is elegant in its simplicity. Our worship space will comfortably hold over 400 guests, but is appropriate and welcoming for smaller weddings as well. We have both a piano and organ on site for the musical needs of your ceremony.
Good Samaritan is the home for two worship communities – Good Samaritan Episcopal Church and the Newman Center Catholic Community. Our in-house clergy officiate at most community wedding services but our worship space is available to others within the Episcopal and Catholic faiths and to other denominations with ordained clergy. The permission of our clergy after consultation, due consideration, and vetting is required.
Good Samaritan Church has a parish hall suitable for receptions and rehearsal dinners with an outdoor patio area. Our facilities can accommodate seating for up to 145 with tables and chairs on site and a kitchen suitable for the use of a catering service. A dance floor can be brought in at the expense of the user. There is an audiovisual system that can be used with the supervision of the staff facilities manager to enhance your event.
Preparation and Planning
A wedding consultation begins at Good Samaritan with a scheduled meeting with our parish administrator. We are a busy church community, so long range planning is essential in securing your desired time and date. Our Parish Administrator will help you plan the date and time of your event, give you a tour of the facility, and apprise you of our fee schedules, the availability of sexton services, and the assistance of our music directors. They will refer you to the Wedding Guild Coordinator for further planning assistance. The Wedding Guild will assist you in planning the flow of your event and inform you of the items available to be used to enhance your wedding experience (unity candle stand, pew bows, candelabrum, etc.). We work with your own coordinator, if you have one, and inform you of the protocol we use for photographers, videographers, outside musicians, and florists. We will discuss the decorum expected of all outside participants and vendors to insure the smooth running of a significant religious service. It is our expressed goal to support your wishes and needs on this most important day with the welcome and loving kindness that is the hallmark of this community.
The Wedding Guild
The Wedding Guild also assists the clergy at the wedding rehearsal. It is our aim to bring order and harmony to the preparation process and to ensure a smooth running, stress free ceremony. Please plan to have all of your wedding party including parents, ushers, outside singer and musicians, and readers present at the wedding rehearsal. Prior to all weddings, the marriage license must be available for signature on the wedding day. All fees for services will be required well in advance of the wedding day.
